Howdy,
I'm Ross Nicholls:
A Freelance Web & Product Designer with an empathy for users and a passion for digital.
I have been crafting functional and beautifully designed Websites and User Interfaces since 2012 with Creative Agencies and Tech Start ups around the globe. I like to solve problems and get beneath the bonnet to see how everything works. I have a passion for holistic design, communication and research. I also like to code front ends 😀
My skills.
UX Design
You cant make something functional without planning. I like to approach my design holistically and that's how I first fell in love with UX design in art school. I like to craft the user experience to your product's specific needs. I always put the user at the forefront by using methods such as: user centric design, user flows, task-based scenarios, personas, wireframing and prototyping.
UI Design
I started out as a print designer back in the day. However, my passion for all things digital and technology led me down the path of web and product design. I have been doing this since 2012 now. I craft beautiful web and mobile experiences as well as systems and dashboards whilst still dabbling in print and illustration, too.
Code
Front end development is the art of making your designs come alive with code. For me, code is just another medium like oils and acrylics. I have been coding front ends on and off since 2011. As with UI and UX design, HTML and CSS are just another passion of mine. I'm proficient in HTML & CSS and like using JS.
More about me.
I’ve been involved in the design world for a long, long time: over a decade now. However, when I think about it: it’s been a lot longer. I have very happy memories of being a child and designing Spiderman’s web-shooters, go carts, tree houses, superhero characters, spaceships — you name it: I’ve most probably designed it. It’s no surprise to my parents that I entered the world of design.
It begun with graphic design and moved forward into user experience and user interface design. I studied for my degree in graphic arts at Winchester School of art. It was there that I fell in love with Swiss Modernism. My digital design is still hugely influenced by the modernist movement. I like clean and functional design, however, I love to code and have a soft spot for illustration, too.
My tools.
I’m a little old fashioned and like to start with pen and paper. Then I move onto the big boys toys. I have always loved the Adobe suite and still use Illustrator and photoshop regularly. I was an avid XD user but now you can usually find me designing in Figma. I have used Sketch quite a bit, also.
After all the design has been dealt with I like to use HTML and CSS to craft my designs. I also use bootstrap and Vue.js. I also like react and the state

Jaguar and Land Rover need no introduction. For some time, they’d been having trouble with their Corporate Website’s navigation and structure. At the time I worked for a Development House who worked in the automotive industry.
Kind words.

Rosie Beasley.
Global Senior Manager @ Blue Prism
Ross is an extremely creative designer with the technical ability to implement his designs across a wide range of mediums. I was very lucky to have Ross become part of our marketing team as he is also knowledgeable about marketing and approaches projects from the customer perspective rather than personal design preferences, paying particular attention to the user experience. Ross was very easy to work with, a fantastic team player and comes highly recommended.
Chris Poulton .
Director of Technology @ Lifetime Legal
I had the pleasure of working with Ross for 2 years. His design style is modern and his attention to detail is great. Ross is happy to offer opinions and guidance within a team environment and is happy at the same time to listen to the opinions of others. I would describe Ross as a solutions problem solver. Ross works well within a team and is a capable mentor. I wouldn't have any problem recommending Ross.
Matt Harper.
Owner and Director @ 360 Design
Ross is a solid team player with a
great personality. His design skills across the
board were very strong for the level he
came into the agency. He’s super creative,
a problem solver and way more. He would
be an asset to any design agency.
