Enhanced due diligence system
UX | UI | System Design | Front End Development
I was tasked to design some new user friendly software for Lifetime Legal's enhanced due diligence agents. I was sole designer/front end dev on this project working with a PHP Developer. The turn around time had a tight deadline of 12 weeks and we got the system up and running within budget. The project was a huge success cutting production time for the Agents by over 50%.
Initial Discovery
I begun with a kickoff meeting that involved the stakeholders in order to gather information and requirments. I then moved onto a discovery workshop with the users. This involved brainstorming sessions and interviews. This was a complex project as the Agent's initial workflow was complex with them pulling data from an array of other systems. There were a host of pain points and complex problems that needed creative solutions. I documented the discovery ... see below 👎
Personas
My next step was to create some personas using the information I'd gleamed from the users. This was done so I was designing with a clear user in mind. What really helped is I had access to my users who were in the office next door. I could nip in and out and be really inquisitive and get to know my user's both professionally and socially.
Wireframes
After the initial discovery I began sketching and designing the wireframes so I could get feedback from the users along the process. I held mini design sprints to capture the user's thoughts when using prototypes.
User Journeys
This was the fun part. After initially sketching out user flows and using post it notes: I begun a more detailed user journey map/maps. This was an integral part of the design as the user journey was paramount for the project.
Prototype
This was an extremely helpful exercise within our mini design sprints. It gave us a clear understanding of what the user wanted and how I was going to implement the design. These sprints had many ideation phases where I really became familiar with the agents current workflow and pain points.
UI Design.
After completing the UX design and research I began working upon the user interface. I had to design it in such a way as it was familiar to the agents current workflow but cut the excessive clicks and manual admin. At the forefront I'm a visual designer and relished putting the UX work into a neat, well designed package. I designed a system of components in Adobe XD based upon Brad Frost's atomic design and also a library within Sass/Vue.js. The final designs were a hit and we tested regularly, getting feedback and progressing foward ... until Covid hit 😞
