Jaguar & Landrover Corporate sites

UX | UI | Front End Development

Jaguar and Land Rover need no introduction. For some time, they’d been having trouble with their Corporate Website’s navigation and structure. At the time I worked for a Development House who worked in the automotive industry and had a contract with JLR: so they came to us to see if we could help. After stakeholder meetings and an initial discover phase, I got to work upon some cool designs … but not without a lot of hard work in the beginning.

UX Design

I began with an Holistic approach to their original design, capturing my thoughts on what was good and bad and the pain points I found as a user. We went over my ideas in a series of mini workshops wher we all brainstormed ideas using methods such as: crazy eights and sailboats.

I began sketching the project out in terms terms of Atomic Design — this was quite a new topic of design thinking in 2016. I was playing and being creative with Atoms, Molecules, Organisms and Templates. The key was to try and design a system that worked for both JLR, Jaguar, their users and one that lined up to their business goals.

The second phase to start was to create task based scenarios and see where the navigational problems were. After the initial period I begun on some information architecture and card sorting, then moved onto persona creation.

Wireframes

The third phase was to begin to try and put the information architecture in some kind of functional form. I begun with wireframes to enable myself to concentrate on form and not to worry too much about creative design.

UI Design.

The final designs were a testiment to the hard work that I'd put into the user experience design and the information architecture. They spoke volumes of the functunality that we'd found in the initial stages of the design cycle. Although JLR have since updated their designs: most of my architecture still remains. I'm very proud of these designs that are almost 10 years old.
